Why We Need a World Neurodivergent Birth Day
Neurodivergent parents face unique challenges throughout their maternity journey. Research shows they are significantly more likely to experience trauma, sensory overwhelm, and communication barriers during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.
These experiences aren't inevitable—they stem from healthcare systems not designed with neurodivergent minds in consideration. With thoughtful adjustments to maternity care, we can ensure birth makes sense for every brain.

Did you know?
Neurodivergent parents report higher rates of birth trauma, yet most maternity units lack specific neurodiversity training or accommodation protocols. Simple adjustments in communication, environment, and support can dramatically improve outcomes.
Our Story & Mission
1
Our Beginnings
World Neurodivergent Birth Day was established by NeuroNatal Academy CIC to address the significant gap in maternity care for neurodivergent families. October 20th was chosen deliberately to fall within ADHD Awareness Month, acknowledging the intersection of various neurodivergent experiences in parenthood.
2
Our Purpose
We exist to raise awareness of neurodivergent pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences whilst campaigning for neuro-inclusive maternity care worldwide. Through sharing lived stories, research, and practical resources, we're building a movement that celebrates neurodivergent families.
3
Our Vision
We envision a world where every maternity service recognises, respects, and responds to neurodivergent needs. Where birth plans acknowledge sensory sensitivities, communication preferences, and processing differences. Where every parent feels understood during one of life's most transformative experiences.
How to Get Involved

Resources for Professionals

All materials emphasise that small adjustments can make profound differences, focusing on solutions that work within existing systems while moving towards more comprehensive inclusion.
